A Fall Wedding Guide: 5 Things to Consider When Planning Your Wedding
Did you know I started SammiaLynn Illustration and Design nine years ago? That means Iβve been illustrating weddings and events for nearly a decade. And in that time, Iβve witnessed a lot of weddingsβmany of which have taken place in the fall, due to the cooler weather and beautiful scenery. In this blog, Iβm going to give you some fall wedding tips to make sure you have the best possible celebration!
5 Things to Consider When Planning a Fall Wedding
Location
Planning your wedding almost always starts with securing your venue! And this is especially true for a fall wedding. The Northeast region of the U.S. is the most popular for that time of year, which means that venues book up very quickly. Book your venue as early as you can, particularly if you have a dream venue in mind or are aiming for a specific date.
If youβre looking for classic fall foliage, get out of the city and into the mountains! Or, if youβd like to stay closer to home, a winery is a fantastic option. In fact, one of my favorite weddings from last fall was at Castle Hill Inn, an oceanside inn in Rhode Island. You can read all about it in this Venue Feature!
While fall weddings in the Northeast are popular because of the cooler temperatures, the weather can also be very unpredictable. Be sure whatever venue you choose has a solid rain plan.
When to Book Your Vendors
Vendors, like venues, can book far in advance, and fall is the most popular season for weddings. Personally, September and October are my busiest months. If you have your heart set on working with a certain vendor, I recommend reaching out nine to twelve months before your event!
Fall Wedding Colors
The classic fall wedding color palette is, of course, deep oranges and reds. This combination will always be timeless and beautiful. However, lately Iβve found myself drawn to a cooler fall color palette, with navy and sage, with hints of burnt orange and gold accents.
But the truth is, your wedding colors do not have to be defined by the season! Pick the colors you love and feel good in.
Embrace Texture
No matter what color palette you choose, I highly, highly encourage you to incorporate texture into your wedding design! You can completely change the atmosphere of a space just by including a unique or unexpected texture. For fall weddings, I love seeing velvet, which instantly makes a space feel cozy and luxurious.
Florals are another great way to include texture. Unique blooms and rich greenery make even the simplest venue feel completely transformed. Or, if florals arenβt your thing, you can use candles to create a warm, moody atmosphere!
Seasonal Food and Drinks
I recommend seasonal food and drinks for every time of year, since itβs better for your budget and for the earth. But fall foods and flavors are my favorite. Iβll never get tired of pumpkin, cinnamon spices, and apple cider donuts. Plus, any flavor you love in food, you can incorporate into your cocktails, too!
Secure Your Live Illustration for Your Fall Wedding
If thereβs one thing Iβve learned in nine years of illustrating weddings and events, itβs this: the best celebrations are the personal ones. Fall wedding or otherwise, the most memorable events are the ones that feel unique and intentional. So do what feels right for you! The only rule is that you enjoy your wedding to the fullest.
One of the best ways to do this is to plan customized experiences for you and your guests.
